FEDERATION of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) have written a protest letter to FIFA seeking to free Cranes defender Nestroy Kizito from suspension by Serbia Football Associations (SFA).
SFA on November 23 suspended Kizito, who turns out for Serbian club FK Srem, indefinitely for absconding from duty.
FUFA secretary Haruna Mawanda argued in the letter to the world football governing body that the suspension of Kizito was improper because SFA acted when they (FUFA) had already forwarded the matter to FIFA.
“We have written to FIFA to protest the purported suspension because it was done at a time the matter was already being handled by FIFA. That is improper. The suspension is even indefinite yet FIFA encourages definite bans,” Mawanda said.
FUFA received Kizito’s letter of suspension from SFA early in the week. The player is part of the 19-man squad in Ethiopia for Uganda’s campaign to retain the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup title that kicks off on Saturday.
Kizito told the press recently that he signed a six-month contract with Srem that had expired but club officials claim the Ugandan’s deal sealed on July 31 runs until 2008.
Kizito and fellow countryman Phillip Ssozi publicly criticised their contracts with Srem saying that they were tricked into signing fake deals.
