THE MTN CAF Champions League draw yesterday ended with Ugandan clubs finding themselves in the path of Egyptian sides.

Though starting with less paper weight clubs, the two Ugandan representatives, SC Villa (Champions League) and KCC (Confederation Cup) will, if they advance in their respective rounds, meet Egyptian clubs in the next round.

League champions Villa, drawn against Eritrea’s Adulis in the preliminary, if successful, faces Egypt’s El Ahly before the group stages.

El Ahly, who have won the Champions League three times have met Villa thrice in the continental competition.

Ahly was victorious in 1984, winning on an away goal rule after drawing 2-2 on aggregate and in 1988 they beat Villa 3-6 on aggregate.

The only time Villa advanced at Ahly’s expense was in the 1991 quarterfinals. After falling 0-2 away, Villa triumphed 2-0 at home, forcing a penalty shoot out for a 4-2 win.

KCC, entered in the Confederation Cup, have been drawn against Zanzibar’s Kipanga FC. If they advance, they meet CECAFA club winners APR of Rwanda and Egypt’s Ismalia as the next opponents.
