THE Government has given three land titles to Busoga Kingdom under its programme to return property to the traditional governments, reports Charles Kakamwa.

Lands state minister Baguma Isoke handed over the freehold land titles to the kingdom prime minister Martin Musumba at Bugembe in Jinja on Tuesday.

The commissioner for lands, Mukasa Mulinde, attended.

Titles for over 20sq miles at Butembe, 4.5sq miles at Bufulubi Prison Farm in Mayuge district and 3.5 hectares at Plot 22, Masese in Jinja municipality were handed over.

Prime Minister Prof. Apolo Nsibambi said returning the properties was delayed by lack of proper documents to prove ownership.

“Unlike other kingdoms, Busoga lacked documentation. It was a long struggle to trace them,” he said.

Nsibambi said the Government would return other properties such as the musical band, county, sub-county and parish headquarters.

Musumba commended the government for honouring its promises. He said this showed its trust and commitment to the citizens.

Isoke asked kingdom officials to encourage people to utilise their land titles to acquire loans for income-generating activities.
