FORMER FUFA general secretary Godfrey Kisekka bounced back in the delegates’ polls yesterday and declared his intentions for the presidency.

But as Kisekka toasted to his SDCA victory, former president Twaha Kakaire was beaten in Jinja.

Kakaire, who lost the FUFA presidency to Dennis Obua in 1998, was only able to secure two votes.

Faisal Mubarak and Lawrence Makubuya are the Jinja delegates.

“I will go for presidency if backed.

As you can see, I am still popular,” said a beaming Kisekka after leading with 25 votes in the Super Division Clubs Association election at Nakivubo.

Wakiso’s Lawrence Mulindwa also stressed that he is presidential material — a statement he followed up with offers to his district football association.

The St. Mary’s Kitende director offered sh1m, a set of uniforms, three balls each and registration fee sh0.1m to all the clubs that will feature in the district’s league.

Kumi delegate Michael Okiror, also a presidential candidate, bounced back unopposed. But Eddy Ssembatya, a key figure in the Okiror camp, was beaten in Kawempe where Godfrey Asuya and Wasswa Ogonto are the new delegates.

FUFA secretary Haruna Mawanda left Kampala with intentions of contesting in Mpigi but chickened out of the highly charged polls that delayed to take off.

Dennis Mbidde of the SOS pressure group finally realised that criticising FUFA from the sidelines would not help. He won one of Rubaga’s seats.

Controversy reigned in Arua where contestants could not agree on a returning officer.

In Busia, results of two separate elections were submitted to FUFA’s returning officer David Agong in Mengo.

The women also had two separate groups forwarding names. The second women’s submission of Bagunywa Nkalubo, Magida Nantanda and interestingly former Cranes ‘keeper Paul Ssali.

In Tororo area MP Apollo Ofwono, who lost his seat as the area’s soccer delegate, has petitioned.

FUFA boss Dennis Obua’s strongman Yusuf ‘Chuni’ Kyeyune was in high spirits as most of their candidates sailed through.
