THE Ugandan Police have handed over 283 pieces of timber stolen from Tanzania to their counterparts from the Kagera region.

Rakai CID officer Patrick Basuta handed over the timber to Mark Kalunguyeye, the Bukoba district commanding officer, at Mutukula Police in Rakai district.

The timber was reportedly stolen from Minziiro forest in Tanzania.
Basuta said, “We are doing this to strengthen the relationship at the border between the two countries. We should forget the past.”

Basuta said the timber was an exhibit to be taken to court in Tanzania.

He asked the Tanzanian police to assist them in case of need.

Kalunguyeye praised the relationship between the two countries, saying there was no need to contact Kampala and Dar es Salaam for any action at the Mutukula border.
