LAST Saturday’s Live-for- Life concert at Lugogo cricket ground was only the first of what we are to expect from Blu*3, Uganda’s Coca-Cola Popstars. The vibrant trio of Jackie, Cinderella and Lillian are scheduled to have national and international concerts as they promote their new album, Hitaji.

Steve Jean, the Blu*3 producer, said this month, the girls will have more concerts in the country and in January, they will perform in Kenya, Kigali and Tanzania during Wakilisha’s album launch.

After rocking East Africa, Blu*3 will perform in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Saturday’s performance represented an East African music cohesion as Sema and Wakilisha, Coca-Cola Popstars from Kenya and Tanzania respectively, joined Blu*3. Each group’s performance drilled through a crowd of holiday makers, who turned up to witness Blu*3’s album launch.

Curtain raisers performed at the concert, which ended after 2:00am. From little known artistes like Rocky Giant and Black Boy to PAM awards winners like Juliana Kanyomozi (Best R&B artiste) and Ragga Dee (Best Ragga artiste), the audience’s mood swung uncontrollably to ecstasy. The popstars ignited an uproar that increased with each performance by Sema, Wakilisha and Blu*3. Sema sung Leo (Today) and Leta wimbo(bring on the music) and Wakilisha sung their popular hits and Swanglish.

The audience screamed, danced and sung along as the trio sang songs off their new album . Tomaalako, Don’t say, Kanchachanche and a dancehall Frisky remix featuring Peter Miles, were delivered with verve and received with gusto. At the end, the group jointly sang the Swahili classic, Malaika. “It was a big thrill for all of us (Blu*3, Sema and Wakilisha) to perform a song Malaika that many Ugandans like,” Jackie Chandiru, said.

Steve Jean confirmed the reunion of the three pop groups and the girls are looking forward to broadening their horizons. “We are looking forward to holding bigger concerts. It is time for us to expand,” Lillian Mbabazi, said.
