Lake Mburo National Park is one of the most rarely talked about parks but it holds one of the most serene environments appropriate for laidback travellers seeking a quiet vacation.

Lake Mburo National Park is one of the most rarely talked about parks but it holds one of the most serene environments appropriate for laidback travellers seeking a quiet vacation.

Located in western Uganda between Masaka and Mbarara, Mburo is characterised by lakes, rolling hills and open grassland valleys where hundreds of wild game like impalas, zebras (right), buffaloes, hyenas, and crocodiles graze, play and hunt.

Accommodation in the park can be sought out in the national park huts and a camping area (contact UWA). Camping requires one to carry a tent.

Another accommodation option is exquisite self-contained luxury tents run by Mantana Lake Mburo Camp (041 320 152/041 321 552).

The tents, overlooking lake Mburo, have twin bedrooms, dressing area en-suite shower and toilet facilities to ensure homely comfort. But at the moment they are fully booked up to January 1. From Kampala it is four hours to the park.
