Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has decried the prolonged war in northern Uganda, warning that it might spread to other regions.
The Kabaka said although other parts of the country seem to enjoy peace, the war affects all Ugandans.
“I am touched by the plight of children in northern Uganda who were born and have grown up in the internally displaced people’s camps. These children are traumatised and might grow up with hatred, which could lead them to seek revenge,” Mutebi said.
He was speaking during the inter-denominational Christmas prayers he hosted at his Lubiri palace yesterday.
“You all remember what happened in May 1966. The Kabaka’s palace was overrun, many people killed, jailed and others disappeared and have never returned. Since then, Uganda has never had total peace. The northern war should be a concern to all of us. If the conflict doesn’t end soon, more lives will be lost and it could spread to other parts of the country,” Mutebi said.
Vice-President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya warned people against being judgmental. “Never judge others, lest you will also be judged by the same measure,” he said, quoting from the gospel of Matthew.
