FUFA technical committee chairman John Baptist Ssemanobe has said the Cranes put up a good performance, despite being bundled out of the CECAFA club championship at the group stage.

“If you look at the players we had at the tournament, getting a win, a draw and a loss means a fair performance,” said Ssemanonbe.

Cranes won against the Somalia and lost 2-1 to Sudan before registering a one-all draw with Kenya.

But CECAFA secretary Nicholas Musonye had another view of Ugandan players.

“There is no talent, no team spirit and this has been one of the worst squads in years,” Musonye said.

He said that lack of a youth development programme in the region has created a vacuum in producing talent, which must be worked against if East Africa is to rise again.

The Uganda team was made of new faces including Brian Kimbugwe, who came in after his good show in a Cranes friendly against MUBS on the eve of the Cranes departure.
