Kony was buying time, I can bet!

SIR— I read with surprise your lead story “Army seizes LRA war map” in The New Vision on Monday. The army has seized the LRA’s operational map, which indicates places and IDP camps the rebels plan to attack during Christmas!

This is horrible, considering the fact that the same LRA has allegedly been calling for peace talks!
Can we all not see that Kony was merely buying time to re-organise himself? Should any right-thinking people trust whatever Kony says and does any more?

Those members of the opposition who have been castigating President Museveni for not resorting to a peaceful resolution of this conflict had better think twice. Kony is not the man who will ever be handled with kid gloves.

Let us face it. The UPDF must as a matter of necessity intensify its grip on the brute. In my view, if the Government has failed, let us involve the international community.

Let those who think they can talk to Kony, do so; but the UPDF should do the needful. I am not a prophet of doom, but no amount of peace talks with Kony ever will yield tangible results! I can even bet the whole of my 2005 salary on this.
