THE prestigious Uganda Open Tennis tournament has been revived after a four- year break.

THE prestigious Uganda Open Tennis tournament has been revived after a four- year break.
Uganda Tennis Association (UTA) has listed the Uganda Open on its 2005 calendar released last week.
The tournament that used to attract players from Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda went into limbo when Uganda Breweries under its Bell Lager brand terminated sponsorship of the event in 2000.
Kenyan Nobert Oduor used to dominate the tournament.
UTA is yet to secure a sponsor for the Uganda Open scheduled for May.
UTA’s tentative calendar will start with the Nomi Open tournament in January followed by the U-18 Junior event.
Both legs of the newly created ‘Challenge against Rwanda’ will also be held January in Kigali and Kampala.
The Money Circuit is scheduled for February 20-25 followed by the Davis Cup Euro-Africa group IV due February 27-March 6.
The calendar has several juniors, seniors and veterans’ tournaments and an ITF Level 1 coaching course among others.
The season will wind up on December 1 with the World AIDS Day Mixed Doubles event that will be sponsored by America Chamber.
The national league is also expected to be introduced next season.
