Jean Bosco Kazura left on Tuesday for the troubled western region of Sudan to act as the deputy commander of the African Union (AU) protection force in Darfur, a presidential statement said. The commission of the AU had requested the Rwandan government to designate a deputy as the commander to its mission in Darfur, according to the statement. Kazura was appointed by the commission on November 15.

Kasulu ruling due in Jan

BUGANDA road court will on January 31, 2005 rule on whether to release on bail Patrick Kasulu, the property masters boss.
The chief magistrate, Margaret Tibulya, yesterday fixed the date following an application for bail by Kasulu’s lawyer, Mcdusman Kabega. Kabega said Kasulu had completed 120 days in prison and deserved bail.

MP appeals on bank notes
Bank of Uganda should extend the deadline for withdrawing the sh5,000 and sh10,000 bank notes, the Kawempe North MP has appealed, writes Emmanuel Mulondo. Latiff Ssebaggala (above) told the press in Kampala on Tuesday that if the December 30 deadline is maintained, many people who did not get the information would make losses.

Driver fined over alcohol

A driver has been ordered to pay a sh100,000 fine or serve six months in jail for driving under the influence of alcohol. Paul Kalungi, 28, of Buziga pleaded guilty to the charge on Wednesday.
