ISLAMABAD — More than 4,000 people have fled southern Afghanistan during the past three days as a result of famine and fighting.

They are on the border with Pakistan, the United Nations said on Thursday. Yusuf Hassan, a spokesman for the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, said the latest movements meant there were 7,000 refugees camped in the narrow strip of “no-man’s land” opposite Pakistan’s Chaman border.Ends
