Ugandans To Head EA House Committees

TWO Ugandan members of the East African Legislative assembly, Yona Kanyomozi and Sarah Bagalaaliwo have been appointed chairpersons of two of the seven assembly’s committees.

By Richard Mutumba TWO Ugandan members of the East African Legislative assembly, Yona Kanyomozi and Sarah Bagalaaliwo have been appointed chairpersons of two of the seven assembly’s committees.Kanyomozi will chair the transport, trade and investment committee while Bagalaaliwo will lead the accounts committee. Elections were held at Parliament yesterday.The seven committees are, accounts, legal, rules and privileges, transport, trade and investment, tourism, wildlife and natural resources, regional affairs and conflict resolutions, general purpose and the House business committee.According to the assembly’s rules of procedure, a person can only be member on two committees. Other chairpersons of the various committees include Jared Benson Kangwana (Kenya) for legal, rules and privileges, Prof. Margaret Kumar (Kenya) for tourism, wildlife and natural resources, and Kate Kamba (Tanzania) for regional affairs and conflict resolution.Others are Mahfoudha Alley Hamid (Tanzania) for general purpose committee and Speaker Kinana for the House business committee.Meanwhile, the assembly was yesterday adjourned to March. It is yet to be decided where the assembly would meet next. Members will be conducted on a tour of the country next week to observe its social, economic and political aspects.Ends
