The Environmental Conservation Trust of Uganda, ECOTRUST, was established as a sustainable funding institution to support the conservation of biological diversity and alleviate poverty through sustainable economic development activities. ECOTRUST inherited a wealth of experience and capacity from the USAID-funded Grants Management Unit (GMU). The formation of ECOTRUST moved the GMU from a para-legal status into a legally recognised conservation trust.ECOTRUST is a private not-for-profit trust fund, managed by a nine-member Board of Trustees. ECOTRUST has no government affiliation but works with government, non-governmental and international institutions in fostering and supporting biodiversity conservation and environmentally sound economic development.ECOTRUST seeks and receives funding from a wide variety of sources, public and private donor organizations, both local and international to support the institution’s funding program.Investment and business needs of ECOTRUSTECOTRUST plans to diversify its current donor base by developing an innovative business and financial strategy that targets identification of resources from local and international institutions. ECOTRUST also wishes to adopt a business philosophy focusing on achieving growth through quality services at a reasonable cost.Therefore, ECOTRUST wishes to recruit a Business Development Advisor with proven investment expertise to respond to the organization’s business demands, needs and challenges.Purpose:1. To operationalize a short and long term business development strategy for ECOTRUST.2. To ensure the short term and long term financial corporate objectives of resource mobilisation are realised.Scope of work:• Develop a comprehensive business development strategy.• Develop a business marketing strategy to business from a wide range of partners outside of the current USAID/ ECOTRUST corporate agreement grant.• Promote networking and collaborative resource sharing initiatives with partners (bilateral and multilateral).• Make budgetary and financial projections for implementing long term initiatives.• Liaise with donors to establish rapport and monitor their focus and interest on a regular basis.• Develop financial mechanisms to allocate overhead costs to clients.Skills:• Advanced degree in Business Administration or the equivalent majoring in Financial Management and Marketing.• Proven business plan and marketing development experience.• Experience with international development organisations.• Excellent command of English both verbal and written.• Capability to plan and co-ordinate special events for promotion as well as resource mobilisation.• Computer literate• Able to communicate to/with leading business personalities honestly and effectively on the financial goal of ECOTRUST describing accurately how those goals will be met enthusiasticallyRemunerationVery attractive:The arrangement is to pay an initial package and the final pay to be a percentage of funds mobilized hence on commission terms.Interested candidates should submit an application, full CV and three referees not later than 22nd February 2002 to the ECOTRUST Executive Director, on the address above.
