TODAY the first term of this year begins. Children will be moving up to new classes. As you get your child ready for school, remember that education is a three-way partnership. It involves the learner, the parent and the teacher. Very often, parents think their duty is to pay school fees and avail the child with scholastic materials and meet other needs. The teaching, learning process is left to the teacher. However, if your child is to excel academically you must be actively involved. This can be done through knowing your child’s class teacher and establishing a relationship with him or her. Visit the school often and talk to the subject teachers too. Find out where your child needs a push and where they need encouragement. When teachers realise that you care about the academic and physical welfare of your child, they will be more cooperative with you and the child. It is possible for children to behave one way at home and another at school. Being a regular visitor to the school will enable you to know the child better.Remember, the key is getting involved in your child’s learning. ends
