Katto to defend Garuga crown

By Douglas Mazune RALLY sensation Emma Katto returns to haunt his foes in the Uganda Motor Club at the exciting Garuga double track circuit this Sunday.Katto (Toyota Celica ST 185), who beat Charles Muhangi in a Subaru Impreza ‘Ekitaguriiro’ on the double before a 30,000 crowd last year, has confirmed he would defend his title. Jubilant fans nearly lifted Katto’s car after the fierce race that left both drivers sweating profusely.“Katto is our first entrant, we are happy he is back to defend his title,” an overjoyed UMC vice chairman, Fred Mugerwa, said yesterday. “The race is likely to be equally hot.”Veteran Karim Hirji, who dominated the sport in the early 1990s, is also in the race. Top guns Moses Lumala, Giovanni ‘Italiano’ Storchi, Kaka Jr and national champion Charlie Lubega are expected to join the race.The event is the first of the Clubman Rally Championship on the FMU calendar.ends
