By Robert Kanusuand Richards OsindeJINJA Resident District Commissioner Deo Kayongo has said compensation for the Butamira forest permit holders would start early next week.Kayongo said the 170 permit holders, who were evaluated recently, would be compensated while those who were not evaluated would be considered later.“It would have been unfair to evict the farmerswithout compensating them, but time has come to show what we were telling them,” he said.Kayongo accused some saboteurs blocking the extension of Kakira Sugar Works services yet they failed to develop the plots allocated to them a year ago.“Some people like Sam Kitanda and his group never even bothered to plant a single tree contrary to the order from the forestry department, that is why they are against the exercise to develop the area because there is no way they will benefit from the compensation,” he said.Kayongo said the compensation would cover for only the trees and bi-annual crops. He said community development contribution including health and road infrastructure would also be considered.however, he said the evaluation report had not reached his office.Ends
