Bugingo has ashamed the national army

SIR—I am saddened by your story of February 1, entitled “Military commander beats up journalists.” What Maj Bugingo did was a shameful act, unbefitting of a UPDF senior officer.

SIR—I am saddened by your story of February 1, entitled “Military commander beats up journalists.” What Maj Bugingo did was a shameful act, unbefitting of a UPDF senior officer. He has tainted the good name of the national army. We all thought the army as a terrorist machinery of state had ended with the murderous regimes of Obote and Amin! But lo and behold! We still have black sheep in the form of Bugingo! Journalists are watchdogs of society and are supposed to report on every event. It was quite unprofessional for a commander to destroy a journalist’s camera and assault Matthias Mugisha. Bugingo knows very well that he is a public figure. If he did not want his picture to be taken, he should have stayed home and no one would have followed him there. How can we turn round and say there is freedom of the press?Mable RuhwezaKampala
