Never interfere with some one who says nothing. This is what the Bible tells us.However, a taxi conductor who went against this advice was embarrassed, making him the laughing stock of the taxi. This happened in a Gayaza-bound taxi.It all started when an old man boarded at Kalerwe carrying smoked fish and rat poison with him. Moments after the taxi set off, the talkative conductor pounced upon him without warning. “Mzee mukifo kyo kwegulira enva ogulira Mmese?” (Instead of buying sauce for your self, you have bought some for rats?) he jested. The mzee kept quiet for a while, as if to allow the tumult to die down, but then chose to strike back later. Pointing at the conductor, he said, conductors are the most dim witted persons, since they regurgitate other people’s words.Moments before a passenger had disembarked, when he said “ku stage awo” the conductor repeated after him “ku stage awo.”This caused everyone who was able to understand the old man’s humour to laugh. But the old man was not yet done. He added that this particular conductor looked the type who, on discovering a rat had played with his food, would simply slice off the portion the rat nibbled and choose to feast on the portion it sat and farted while nibbling.Passengers laughed to their hearts content and cautioned the ice cold conductor never to interfere with other peoples lives.ends
