By Kiganda Ssonko.Sembabule LC5 chairman Herman Ssentongo has said the district plans to develop a Museum as a tourist centre. He told The New Vision recently that the museum will work as a source of revenue in the district by boosting tourism.Ssentongo said it would also act as an educational centre for the residents.“The museum will attract tourists, researchers and students. It will earn the district revenue to be used in developing other important sectors like education, agriculture and health,” he said.Ssentongo said the museum will be developed at Bigobyamugenyi, Ntuusi sub-county, the former historical site of the Chwezi people which is about 10km from Sembabule town.He said the construction is expected to start in July and will cost over sh150m.“This money is to be used in repairing roads linking to the site. It will also be used in constructing and rehabilitating the structures around it. But more funds will be needed for standard enhancement,” he said.He said the project will help the district develop its infrastructure like hospitals, schools, roads and recreational centres.Ssentongo said the project is a joint plan formulated by the district and the central government in its programme of modernising areas of antiquities countrywide. He called upon donors, wellwishers, NGOs and local leaders to assist in developing the project.
