Winner vows APAC — The newly elected LC5 chairman, Ben Olwa, has vowed to ensure effective implementation of government programmes in the district. Addressing a press conference at his office on Friday, Olwa called for joint effort among politicians including the losers in developing the district. He got 60,401votes. ------- 35 lose SOROTI — A total of 35 aspirants in the district lost in the just concluded LC5 elections. The incumbent John Emily Otekat beat his rivals reformist Peter Omolo and former Minister of state for internal affairs Col. William Omaria, with 31,601 votes. Omolo got 15,116 votes while Omaria had 12,252. Three councillors were elected unopposed. ------- Schools late BUSIA — Schools opened two weeks after the official date, the district inspector of schools, Patrick Mageni, has revealed. He said a survey carried out by the district inspectorate of schools indicated that the teachers, headteachers and pupils were busy attending LC5 campaign rallies. He was speaking at the headteachers and the district education management meeting .
