Farmers’ training centre opened

MAKERERE University faculty of agriculture has opened up a centre to train farmers and the private sector on modern farming techniques.

By Kikonyogo Ngatya MAKERERE University faculty of agriculture has opened up a centre to train farmers and the private sector on modern farming techniques.The Continuing Agricultural Education centre is located within the University’s Agricultural Research Institute at Kabanyolo in Wakiso district. The sh850m complex has facilities for research, hostels and demonstration gardens. David Matovu, the University council chairman, opened it last Friday.Short courses are to be designed to enable farmers interact with researchers and other agricultural experts.Prof. John Ssebuwufu, the University Vice Chancellor, said the centre was in line with the government’s Plan for the Modernisation of Agriculture.‘The centre is intentionally located in a rural setting so that farmers canfreely interact with the experts,” he said.
