By Joseph OlanyoThe sessional committee on tourism, trade and industry, yesterday recommended that the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) board members be reduced from 21 to nine. The committee, chaired by Zachary Olum (Nwoya county), said the move to trim the board would cut costs and improve the efficiency of the board. “The board is too big and costly to maintain. The organisation does not need such a big number. Most of them even don’t attend meetings and yet they have to be paid transport and per diem,” the members said. They said the nine members to be appointed should have professional experience in finance or economics, management of large enterprises and knowledge of management of protected areas. They should also be representatives of the private sector, especially those involved in wildlife or are representatives of tour and hotel operators.Ends
