Compassion International is an NGO committed to advocacy for children, to release them from their spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults. The organisation wishes to recruit a COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST based in the country office reporting to the Country Director. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The successful applicant will be responsible for the following duties:- Develop stories/proposals on child-related issues for use by Country Director and major Donors in developing grants.- Advocacy: Develop expertise and report on child-related issues within the country.- Attend appropriate forums for child development and welfare issues. - Provide public relations services for national and international needs.- Corporate messaging and identity such as representing mission, core values, e.t.c.- Implement and facilitate communications in crisis situations.REQUIREMENTS:- Must be a mature, honest, born-again Christian with consistent behaviour and leadership based on evangelical Christian values.- Willingness to adopt and internalize the values and cultural behaviours of Compassion International.- Ability to travel frequently (25-30%).QUALIFICATIONS:- Degree in a communications-related field such as public relations, photojournalism, communications or marketing.- Experience in communications-related fields and thorough understanding of the theoretical, practical and operational aspects of effective communication.- Familiarity with basic computer programs and operating skills.- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in languages relevant to the country, as well as total fluency in English.CLOSING DATE: 12TH APRIL 2002Applications should be submitted together with a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of academic qualification documents, names, addresses and telephone numbers of three referees, and clear telephone contacts and post office addresses of applicants.
