Gulu University needs sh9b to start

By James Odong GULU University of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (GUAES), due to open in October with initial 250 students, requires sh9b to start.Peter Egwel Odyomo, the university’s academic registrar, yesterday said that the four-member university taskforce had submitted the budget to the Ministry of Education and Sports for consideration.Egwel made the revelation at a consultative workshop at Ridar Hotel in Seeta to discuss the university’s programmes and other related matters.“To kick-start the university, we need sh9b and we have already submitted the budget to the ministry for consideration,” he said.The workshop was attended by the vice-chancellors of Kyambogo Lutalo Bossa, Makarere John Sebuwufu and Mbarara Frederick Kayanja, Gulu University Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jack Nyeko Pen-Mogi, told the meeting that the university would start with the faculties of agriculture and environmental studies, natural resources, science education and the institute of human resources development.“We are also proposing an additional academic programmes in clinical medicine, surgery, environmental health and chemical engineering among others,” Pen-Mogi told the participant at the workshop.
