By Vision Reporter LIRA deputy RDC Johnson Butamanya has warned the youth in the district against being lured into rebel activities. Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the new LC3 councillors and chairpersons of the four divisions in Lira municipality, he said the UPDF recently intercepted over 500 youths who had been recruited to join an unknown rebel group. He said the youth ranging between the ages of 12 and 25 years were intercepted in Muntu sub- county in Kyoga county by the UPDF. Butamanya said people claiming to be officials from International Volunteers Services (AVSI) were luring the youth into the bush. He said AVSI denied any involvement in the recruitment. Butamanya said reports indicated that the youth were from Otuke county, Dokolo county and Namasale sub-county in Kyoga county, where several youth have been reported missing from their homes. He said many parents continue to flock to his office thinking their sons had been recruited into the UPDF.
