A bodyguard to Lt. Gen. David Tinyefuza on Easter Monday caused a stampede at Nkoma village in Mawogola, in Ssembabule, when he shot dead two farm workers at the General’s farm and dispersed villagers who attempted to intervene, report Eddie Ssejjoba and Dismus Buregyeya.Pte Ogweki allegedly killed the workers identified by the Police as Dismus Ndemezo, the acting farm manager, and David Rwebikumba. The Southern Regional Police Commander, Benson Oyo Nyeko, said Ogweki got angry and shot several times in air scaring off villagers who had gathered at Tinyefuza’s farm. The villagers got attracted to the big row at the farm after the soldier picked a quarrel with the deceased. During the hot argument, Ogweki allegedly ran to his room, picked a gun, charged at the crowd and shot in the air, forcing the villagers to flee. The victims reportedly stood their ground. “He then shot at the two, killing them instantly before he fled,” Oyo Nyeko said. He said the Police was still hunting for the suspect who escaped with the gun and bullets. He said Ogweki would be charged with murder. The Ssembabule District Police Commander, Emmanuel Tumuhairwe, visited the scene of the shooting.
