By John NzinjahAn acute shortage of land has hit Kasese district leading to the rampant poverty in the villages.Kasese district woman Member of Parliament Loyce Bwambale said this on Easter at Kyabayenze playground in Kitholthu sub-county.“There is a serious shortage of land on which people can diversify the growing of cash and food crops. This is coupled with unpredictable weather,” Bwambale said. She said people have become poor and cannot raise money to pay school fees for their children due to shortage of land. She said many children drop out of school especially after primary seven.Members of Parliament from the district advised the LC3 councillors to speed up the rural development workplans to benefit from the Belgian government development grant.Under the Belgian Government Rural Development fund, the district has received over sh9b for development projects in the villages. The pilot project was commissioned last month by the Belgian ambassador. The youth said the sub-county needed a technical school to cater for those who missed school due to the displacement caused by the ADF rebel insurgency.Kitholhu sub-county residents got displaced between 1996 and 2001 before the Government declared the end of the ADF rebel war. Bwambale urged the youth to engage in profitable ventures.Ends
