By John KakandePRESIDENT Paul Kagame of Rwanda has ruled out an extension of the term of his Rwanda Patriotic front (RPF) interim administration, which is due to expire next year.“I would like to disassociate myself from any idea that there will be an extension of the transition. It has not been a subject of any discussion to which I have been party,” Kagame said while answering a question at a press conference held in Kigali recently.According to a transcript issued by the Rwanda Office of the President, Kagame dismissed speculation in the country’s press reports that the RPF was planning to extend its stay for a second term. RPF captured power in 1994.“In your paper, you talk- ed about some statements and insinuations, saying we intend to extend the transition beyond the year 2003. I do not know where you got that information from. I had not heard about it until I read your paper. It seems there are other governments around here that discuss the matter, but not the Government for which I am President,” Kagame told a reporter from Rwanda Herald.
