THE Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has said that this week’s power blackout in different parts of Kampala, was due to damaged underground cables. Charles Odongtho reports that UEDCL senior public relations officer, Edward Twine, said yesterday that the problem was “technical” but was rectified. He said faults on underground cables were usually complicated and could take time to be worked on. “A big underground cable at Bukoto got a technical problem which we have already rectified. We are sincerely sorry for the inconveniences caused to our customers,” Twine said. He added, “In the case of the power problem on South street, it was bigger. We engaged a contractor to beef up our engineers’ effort. It took us almost a whole week to solve.”
