UNEB, please improve UCE result slips
As the Uganda National Examinations Board UNEB introduces result slips for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), it also ought to think of improving the format of those issued for the Uganda Certificate Education (UCE).
Editor: As the Uganda National Examinations Board UNEB introduces result slips for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), it also ought to think of improving the format of those issued for the Uganda Certificate Education (UCE).The slips must reflect grades per paper in subjects like History where students sit for two entirely distinct papers: East African History as paper one and either West or South African History as paper two in this case. Here, besides the slips indicating that one obtained say credit six in History, UNEB should devise a mechanism for ensuring that they bear the mark obtained in each of the two papers. This would not only be a move towards more transparency but it would also enable educationists and students to identify the areas of weakness. They can then come up with appropriate strategies for improving on them which, in my view, is one of the main reasons for giving exams.Robert Byansi,Makerere university,Kampala.ends
