Kasese Poachers Killed

By John NzinjahAT least 13 people from Nyamirami parish in Muhokya sub-county, Kasese district, have been killed while poaching in the Queen Elizabeth National Park in less than three years.In the neighbouring Kitabu parish in Mahango sub-county, more than half of the families in the area have also lost at least one or two people to poaching.“Poaching in the national park has left many widows and orphans in various parts of Kasese district. We may say poaching is another killer virus like HIV/AIDS,” Eric Bakerethi, LC2 chairman Nyamirami parish said recently.He was speaking at the last funeral rites for Rogers Mateso and two others believed to have been killed by game rangers in the park last year.Mateso and colleagues are said to have been killed in the Kikorongo region of the park.Ends
