NATIONAL Schools Basketball Association (NSBA) has reduced girls’ teams in the Sprite National Schools championship to 13.

By Douglas Mazune NATIONAL Schools Basketball Association (NSBA) has reduced girls’ teams in the Sprite National Schools championship to 13.The 2002 edition of the Century Bottling Company-sponsored championship is scheduled for May 21-26 at Nabumali High School in Mbale. “This year 25 teams were interested, but we reduced the number after discussions with the sponsor,” NSBA general secretary, Jimmy Tugumisirize ,said yesterday.In previous editions of the competition, the girls’ category was open to all teams.Kitante Hill, Kibuli SS, Royale Oasis, Eagle’s Nest and defending champions Nabisunsa will represent Kampala. NSBA is yet to name the eight teams from Eastern and Mpigi, but Nabumali is assured of a place by virtue of being hosts. The boys’ category has also been reduced from 34 teams last year to 29.Regular campaigners, St. Peter’s College Tororo remain banned for hooliganism.ends
