By Vision ReporterETHICS and Integrity Minister Miria Matembe yesterday named Mama Mia Restaurant Sax Pub as one of the pubs promoting sexual immorality in Kampala city. Matembe, who was addressing a weekly government press briefing in Kampala, said Mama Mia, an Italian restaurant close to Tourist Hotel, is where homosexuality takes place. The restaurant is run by an Italian diplomat Pietro Averono. “What happens at Sax pub at night is terrible. I don’t know where this country is heading. There is too much immorality all around us. Homosexuality, lesbianism, name it,” she said. Sax Pub, located above Nakasero market off Luwum street, is a popular spot for night idlers and sex workers.“They call it Sax Pub but actually what they meant to say is Sex Pub,” Matembe said. She cautioned public places promoting immorality to stop it or face the full force of the law. Matembe was reacting to comments by information minister Basoga Nsadhu that there was complete moral degeneration and most city dwellers spend most of their time watching blue (sex) movies.“I have been going around touring media houses and cinema halls but you can’t believe what is going on in those places. I don’t know why people enjoy blue movies because most of them have now abandoned everything else including work just to watch those movies,” he said. Nsadhu said he had identified three radio stations which relay live sex acts to their listeners.“They get people playing sex, connect them to a microphone via a phone and relay it to the people. They do this repeatedly at a certain hour of the night. I have been recording them,” Nsadhu said. He promised to move against the radio stations after getting legal advice. “One thing is for sure, no radio station has been granted a licence to relay live sex to the public.”Matembe urged the press to join the fight against moral decadence, but in a positive way.“Don’t go find people playing sex under the table and bring us such pictures,” she warned.Matembe hailed the MPs and the press for supporting her on the Leadership Code Bill. The Bill, which seeks to regulate the conduct of public officials, was passed on Wednesday.Ends
