At the Miss Uganda regional final in Lira last Saturday, scribes who went along with Miss Uganda, Vicky Nabunya as she gave out blankets on the maternity ward of Lira Hospital, were forced to flee the maternity ward. The male superintendent of the hospital, rather than take the party to the post-natal ward to see convalescing mothers with their new-borns, took them instead into the labour ward. Pulling back a flimsy curtain, the scribes were treated to the sight of a woman writhing in pain, legs spread and the head of her unborn knocking on heavens door. The group that fled, were Monitor’s Evelyn Kiapi, John Nsimbe, Vision's Kalungi Kabuye, WBS's Karitas Karisimbi, Sheila Kangwagye and Ziper's Sylvia Owori. The girls apparently said what they saw has put them off having babies. Folks, the author of this column was also among the lads who fled the ground-breaking moment.
