By Elvis BasuddeMark Rebel Walusimbi is not a fresh new face or voice on our music scene. He was the first reggae artist to feature in theatrical songs. If you remember Mariam Ndagire’s Nkwagala, Rebel did the reggae bit while Ndagire did the verses. His first Irokwo Ogenda single, which brought him into the limelight in 1999, rocked our airwaves and reached platinum on the local music scene. That particular single earned Rebel a position in the Millennium song, As One, by all Ugandan music starts –– featuring over 20 home grown musicians. He was in the fourth verse, if you remember.Rebel, now a DJ/MC with Angenoir Discotheque, is now back in a big way. He has come up with a six-track Kenya recorded solo album, Iza Tutahe (Come let’s go), where he blends Luganda, English, Lunyankole and Kinyarwanda.“I have returned after getting new Kenyan producers –– Ogopa DJs, who also produced Chameleon’s Mama Mia and Baby Cool. They are really superb,” says Rebel.Other tracks include Maria, which cautions the young to desist from having unprotected sex.Ends
