Corrupt Cops Dismissed

AT LEAST 20 Police investigators and traffic officers have been dismissed over corruption in the last 10 months, Inspector General Maj Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala has said.

Edward Katumba Wamala has said. He said more officers were yet to go as a measure to restore the Police image that was dented by revelations of the Ssebutinde commission.The commission report cited rampant corruption and abuse of office by top officers.Katumba was addressing Police officers in Masindi Police barracks on Tuesday. Public relations officer Asuman Mugenyi, regional Police chief Musa Balimwoyo and the regional CID officer, John Bwangu, accompanied him.“If your intention is to continue beshaming our team, you better leave before you are struck off the list,” he said. He also warned against drunkenness.Clad in the new uniform for senior Police officers, Katumba said the Police Council has been given until the end of this month to act on those implicated by the Inspector General of Government (IGG).The IGG has been investigating officers implicated by the Ssebutinde Commission. Katumba said those exonerated would be re-absorbed or advised to retire.Earlier, Katumba met senior Police officers and advised them to counsel their juniors. He talked to suspects detained at the Police station. Balimwoyo disarmed a police constable, Nicholas Ben Ogwang who was found drunk at 10:00am.Ends
