Justice Kanyeihamba Set For Commonwealth Panel

By Okello JabweliJUSTICE George Kanyeihamba has been named on a panel of eminent Commonwealth judicial experts to advise on the review of the Kenyan Constitution.Prof. Kanyeihamba, a Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda heads the list of 11 justices from eight countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, Zimbabwe and Tanzania.Kenya is in the process of drafting a new Constitution.According to a copy of the invitation the panel will mostly advise on how to reform the Kenyan judiciary in a new constitutional framework.It will also advise on how to transit from the current to a post-constitution making dispensation.The panel will hold consultations with members of the Kenyan Judiciary and carry out site visits within and outside Nairobi to gain an insight into the current state of the judiciary and its position in the Kenyan society.Kanyeihamba takes to the panel a wealth of knowledge and experience having twice served as Uganda’s Minister for Justice and Attorney General. He first served in that capacity under the late President Yusuf Lule and later under President Yoweri Museveni. Kanyeihamba is a distinguished author and professor of Law. He will leave for Nairobi on Sunday.Ends
