By Davis WeddiCash-strapped Uganda Police have bought five used four wheel-drive Toyota Prado vehicles. The vehicles are to be used by the newly appointed Assistant Inspector Generals of Police and the undersecretary police. The Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, yesterday said the vehicles were bought at sh41m each after getting permission from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The permission had to be sought because the Government does not allow the purchase of used vehicles. He said the vote of funds they received was enough to purchase only two new similar vehicles. But since there were four new officers, they decided for the best option while there were still funds.“These vehicles are not really new. They are second hand. We took two weeks debating on the issue of purchasing the vehicles and we decided to approach the ministry of internal affairs who allowed us,” Katumba said.Ends
