The police Fire Brigade on Monday acted fast to stop another possible disaster at Mbarara Central Market when they put out a fire that had broken out in one of the kiosks.
By Allan TuryagumaThe police Fire Brigade on Monday acted fast to stop another possible disaster at Mbarara Central Market when they put out a fire that had broken out in one of the kiosks.On January 1, this year, traders lost property worth about sh5b in the market when most of it was burnt down in a fire that started in mysterious circumstances.The DPC, Mr. Wilson Kwany, told The New Vision on Monday that they were called to the scene by Securiwise Guards personnel who were guarding the market.He said the fire, which broke out at about midnight in Kiosk No.3, had burnt most of its contents by the time it was extinguished.“We had to break through another kiosk before we could reach the one that was on fire,†Kwanya said. He said the fire was sparked off by an electric frying pan, which the owner of the kiosk had left on before closing. He said that the kiosk belongs to Ezekiel Kuraba.He had turned the kiosk into some kind of a take-away restaurant. Ends
