By Nicholas KajobaMUKONO resident district commissioner Charles Mubiru has issued a ban on all private security firms in the district. This is part of the measures to beef up the security and crack on people holding guns illegally.Mubiru told The New vision that the ban was decided on in a security meeting with the Police and District Internal Security Office.“We decided to ban private security firms for the time being after finding out that many people have lost their lives to private guards,’’ he said.Mubiru said more than eight people were killed by private guards in the district in last three months. He said at least three guns were impounded and a man who terrorised residents of Mukono was arrested recently in joint operations mounted by the Police and the district security organ.Mubiru said many residents had acquired guns and others got their own private guards without informing the Police. “Some residents have acquired their own guards without informing the Police,” he said.He said the ban will necessitate all private security guards in the district to register with the Police. Mubiru said shrines in the district are known for helping people who connive to murder others. Mubiru called for the formation of security committees at the village level to curb insecurity in the district. Ends
