Police Hold Kariuki Over US Scam

THE Police on Thursday arrested Dr. Peter Kariuki and his Ugandan associate, Leonard Ssozi, over the controversial AGOA trade exhibition trip to USA.

By Geoffrey KamaliTHE Police on Thursday arrested Dr. Peter Kariuki and his Ugandan associate, Leonard Ssozi, over the controversial AGOA trade exhibition trip to USA.Kariuki was picked up by plain-clothes detectives shortly after he held a press conference at the Kampala International Conference Centre and was led to the CID headquarters and detained overnight. He had earlier told reporters that he was in the country to clear his name over allegations that he defrauded Ugandans of millions of shillings in the trip. The detectives, led by the anti-fraud squad chief, Dennis Odongpiny, grilled Kariuki and Ssozi for hours over their roles in the scam. Ssozi was released on a sh1m Police bond and his passport confiscated but when Kariuki emerged, both were detained for further interrogation.Ends
