SIR— Recently, I read In the media that Justice Kanyeihamba, a judge at the Supreme Court, had written a book in which he criticised the Movement government and said he was not a cadre of the Movement. I am yet to read his book because it is not on the market. A friend of mine asked me whether the Movement was claiming Justice Kanyeihamba as its cadre hence warranting him to either accept or deny it. I told the person that to the best of my knowledge the Movement had not claimed him as its cadre because he is a judge who is supposed to dispense justice according to the law. By virtue of their ethical conduct, judges are not supposed to engage in politics. What I remember is that at one time Kanyeihamba was a member of NRC and CA for Rubanda county, Kabale district. Also, he once served as a minister in the Movement government and later as an adviser to the President. Well, let’s wait for the book to come on the shelves so that we can appreciate the author’s ideas and be able to make a criticism if need arises. However, when a judge writes on politics he/she should expect open criticism from those who have opposite positions. Whether it is good for a judge to be openly criticised, I don’t know; but when one engages in political writings, criticism is inevitable. So when the book is finally read, Kanyeihamba should expect views from those who don'’t agree with his political ideas in the book.Moses ByaruhangaKampala
