THE Police Force has acquired two new armoured riot control vehicles said to be the first of its kind ever to be imported into the country.

By Yunusu AbbeyTHE Police Force has acquired two new armoured riot control vehicles said to be the first of its kind ever to be imported into the country.The trucks, worth US$550,000, arrived in Kampala last week and are parked at a local clearing agent’s yard pending a formal handover to the Police Force.The Mercedes Benz chassis made trucks were reportedly imported from Israel which is reputed for manufacturing armoured vehicles and other military equipment.Balton Uganda Ltd, owned by an Israeli businessman, Zeev Shiff, is reported to have sold the vehicles to the Police. The company offices are on Plot 47-51, Kibira Road in Kampala.“Balton Uganda Limited was awarded the contract last year after defeating two other bidders. Each vehicle was sold to the Police at US$275,000 (about sh500m),” a source said.Ends
