KCC Loses Sh55m, Two Interdicted

TWO senior Kampala City Council (KCC) officials have been interdicted over the loss of sh55m to the city authority.

By Grace Matsikoand Jovita AjunaTWO senior Kampala City Council (KCC) officials have been interdicted over the loss of sh55m to the city authority.Principal assistant town clerks for Kawempe, Ruth Kijjambu and Peter Wegulo for Rubaga division, were interdicted by Town Clerk Gordon Mwesigye, effective last Saturday.A senior KCC official said Kijjambu and Wegulo during their work in Rubaga division, failed to detect “gross mismanagement” by the division finance officer, the late J. Baine. “This case was brought before the District Service Commission which found out that Mrs. Kijjambu and Mr. Wegulo failed to execute their supervisory role in accordance with KCC standing regulations and sections of the Local Government Finance Regulations,” he said.“mistakes by the two contributed greatly to the gross financial abuse by Baine which resulted into spending sh55,297,227, contrary to the regulations,” the official said.“The two officers have since June 8, been on interdiction and were told to hand over to their deputies. They have been given 14 days to prepare their defence,” he said.The officials are to receive half salary and may not leave the country without permission from the Town Clerk.Kijjambu and Wegulo were reluctant to comment on the issue yesterday. But Kijjambu said she was not satisfied with the reasons for her interdiction.Ends
