Band Master, Okello Is Dead

By Davis WeddiVeteran Police band leader Venancio Okello has died. He died at the age of 78 at his home in Gulu.His son Martin Bongomin told The New Vision that Okello, who was suffering from cough died on Saturday at 7:00pm.Bongomin said Okello was to be crowned on July 27 as King of the Vobo clan of the Acholi people in the Anaka, Nwoya and Aler counties of Gulu.“He developed cough and was admitted to Lacor Hospital in May. He improved and was discharged but the cough returned in June. He returned to Kampala for treatment, then went to Gulu but his condition worsened and on June 29th he died,” Bongomin said.Okello joined the Uganda Police Force at the age of 15.He retired in 1992 and joined Sugar Corporation of Uganda, Lugazi as the bandleader.
