A fire believed to have been set off by an electric short-circuit yesterday gutted Bancafe, a coffee shop, on Kyaggwe road and destroyed property worth over sh200m.

By Edris KisambiraA fire believed to have been set off by an electric short-circuit yesterday gutted Bancafe, a coffee shop, on Kyaggwe road and destroyed property worth over sh200m.The early morning fire, which started at about 6:00am within the lower section of the shop located on the Kampala Pentecostal Church (KPC) building affected business on the whole building complex. Power FM, a Christian based local radio was off air for more than five hours as the Police Fire Brigade battled the fires for over three hours. Fire Brigade had to switch off power as they put out the fire, which eye witnesses described as big.“The fire started from down in the café and proceeded upwards. That shows it must have started earlier than it was sighted. It was blazing terribly, we could see tongues of the fire through the ventilation,” one shop attendant opposite the shop said.The proprietor of the shop, Stephen Banya, told The New Vision that the kitchen was burnt out. “Considering that it is my office as well as a coffee shop, a lot of my equipment has been burnt. The damage that has been caused is worth about sh200m,” Banya told The New Vision.Ends
