By Kiganda SsonkoA young lady who applied for Makerere University Government sponsorship fainted after failing to find her name on the admission lists of the four courses she applied for. This happened on Monday, when the list for Government sponsored students was released. The young lady, who got ABDD from HEG/Luganda and had applied for Mass Communication, Tourism, Social Sciences and B.A Education did not see her name, meaning that she had missed all of them. After a whole day of critical searching, the young lady had to accept that she had missed the highly competed sponsorship. She became psychologically disturbed and was found outside the school of education quadrangle having collapsed, sweating heavily and breathing rapidly. Some good Samaritan applicants who had come to check their names helped her to regain her strength by rushing her to a certain clinic in Wandegeya. After being given some care, she made them understand that she had been thrown deep into frustration after having not been admitted for Government sponsorship, knowing that her parents are too poor to afford private scheme.“I came to check my name without any feelings of ill health, but when I failed to trace my names on the lists of the four courses that I applied for, I knew clearly that my dreams had failed. This threw me very far. In fact, by now I cannot tell how I have come this way, as I last understood earthly events at the school of education,” the young lady told the nurses and those who took her there. The list for Government sponsored students was released and many students did not find their names on as the number was reduced from 4,000 of last year to 2,700. The 1,300 are to be sponsored in Mbarara University and Kyambogo. So this made the competition stiff.
