By John EremuETHICS and integrity state minister Miria Matembe has launched a book on her political life and declared that the money from the sales would become a special fund for women emancipation. The book entitled, “Miria Matembe: Gender, Politics and Constitution Making in Uganda,” depicts Matembe as a woman activist. It also details the contribution of women to the constitution-making process. “The book tells you who I am. The press have been telling you who Matembe is but I am now telling you who I am,” she said during the launch of the book at Kampala Club on Friday.“Just call the book a ‘big mouth’ shouting for women,” Prof. Maxine Ankrah said in footnotes summarising the contents of the 281-page book. Ankrah is the former chairperson of Action for Women in Development (ACFODE).Matembe said her childhood dream of talking for women had come true. She said she was inspired to write on finding out that there was very little literature on women contribution to development. The managing director Fountain Publishers, James Tumusiime, said they were scared of publishing the book, thinking it lacked content. “But when we looked at it we found out that she had a story to tell,” he said.Ends
